HADVC 210 Exhibition Proposal Paper Guidelines

3500 to 3850 words, double spaced, 12 point font

Due June 23 on eClass by 5:00 pm

For your paper, you will develop a proposal for an exhibition of 10 works.
At least 7 of the works in your exhibition should be photographic from any time from 1832 to the present and can be from any geographic region. The remaining 3 works can be in any medium, from any time period, and geographic region.
In addition, at least 4 of the works in your exhibition must be works that have not been discussed in the recorded lectures/Powerpoints throughout the semester. You can use images from the textbook for these 4 works as long as they have not been discussed in class.
Please note that you cannot use any of the photographs included in all of compare and contrast assignments in your exhibition.

Things to consider: Lighting, texts provided to the viewer, placement of objects in the rooms, colour of the walls, what museum, gallery or space the works are displayed in, and why you have made these choices.

Think about all of the elements that determine the ways in which viewers will understand the objects and the exhibition as a whole.

Provide images of the works at the end of your paper and any other additional images or information you think is relevant such as floor plans or information plaques or brochures.
You must answer all of these questions:

-What is the theme of the exhibition?

-Why have you chosen this theme?

-What works have you chosen and why?

-How do these works together to explore your theme?

-Who do you think would be an appropriate audience for the exhibition?

-What space (museum, gallery, elsewhere) have you chosen for the exhibition?

-Why have you chosen this space?

-What information is being given to the viewers? (A wall panel, descriptions located beside the works, catalogues, brochures etc.)

-If you are going to produce information in the form of catalogues or brochures or other things to be handed to the viewer, give a brief outline of what these would entail and the kinds of information that would be found within

-How will the works be displayed in the space such as lighting, placement of objects in the rooms, colour of the walls, the font for the information provided by the writers?

-Why has have you chosen to display the art works in this way?

-Why is it important that certain works are displayed beside each other?

Please note
-Think about all of the elements that determine the ways in which viewers will understand the objects and the exhibition as a whole.

-Be creative. Think about creating a theme and works that people will find interesting. Think outside the box in terms of display, artworks chosen and potential spaces for your exhibition. What will make your exhibition engaging and set it apart?

-The works in your exhibition do not need to be limited to Europe or North America; they can all be from artists of any nationality

-By doing a Google with the search term about the type of photographs and artwork from a particular period or of your theme, you will find examples of other museums and websites that have possible works in their collection.

-Use Chicago or MLA citation styles for all quotes and include a bibliography of websites and any other sources you have consulted
