Assignment Task
You are commissioned to write a leadership consultancy portfolio for an organisation of
your choice, where the service is listed on the Care Quality Commission UK (CQC)
website as ‘requires improvement’.
Familiarise yourself with the inspection judgement of your chosen organisation and
explore the relevant concepts and theories of leadership
Your portfolio should consist of:
• An introduction including an analysis of organisational culture and relevant
leadership theories (Approximately 500 words)
• Presentation of the health/care organisation undergoing change, in need of the
right type of leadership to drive this change. (Approximately 500 words)
• A report on concepts such as selection, recruitment, organisational missions,
visions and objectives as well as organisational scanning tools such as
PESTEL. (Approximately 1000 words)
• Advice to the organisation’s board, on the leadership development suggestions
decision it should pursue and why. (Approximately 1000 words)
You are required to advise the board of directors about what decisions the company
should make and why, in order to implement the right type of leadership for organisational
improvement so that the subsequent re-inspection would confidently amend the outcome
to ‘good’.

The Care Centre provides four specialities: (1) nursing and dementia care, (2) care for adults with neurological conditions, (3) complex behaviour care and (4) general nursing. 
The latest inspection carried out in November 2021 (https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-126404514?referer=widget3) rated the establishment as ‘Requires improvement’ overall based on the ‘safety’ and ‘leadership’ compartments of the inspection judgement. 
As an experienced social care leader, you were commissioned to write a ‘Leadership consultancy report’ for the company. This will require you to familiarise yourself with the inspection judgement at first. Subsequently, you are to explore the relevant theories of leadership, including an analysis of organisational culture, concepts such as selection, recruitment, organisational missions, vision, and objectives as well as organisational scanning tools such as PESTEL. 
You are required to advise a board of directors about what decision the care company should make and why toimplement the right type of leadership for organisational improvement so that the subsequent re-inspection would confidently amend the outcome to ‘good’. 
This will be written as a report.
1. to familiarise yourself with the inspection judgement, read the report and note what are the key issues for the leadership in the business. – ensure that you make this clear at the beginning of your work, in the introduction (briefly)
2. Explore 2 – 3 relevant theories of leadership (give definition and make links to healthcare industry), including an analysis of organisational culture (definition, importance, development)
3. Explaining the concept of organizational culture – add here links to healthcare industry and the case study
4. critically discuss leadership within the context of organizational cultures – you must make links to the case study as you are expected to write a report for a care company how to improve their CQC rating.
5. In addition, consider concepts such as selection, recruitment, organisational missions, vision, and objectives as well as organisational scanning tools such as PESTEL. 
6. Key point: You are required to advise a board of directorsabout what decision the care company should make and why in order to implement the right type of leadership for organisational improvement so that the subsequent re-inspection would confidently amend the outcome to ‘good’. –
In summary: 
Introduction – introduce the report and the key issues that the company has
Main body – provide the facts from the current situation in the company and what are the options for improvement. The improvement points must be linked to the sound knowledge of the theories of leadership, organisational culture, recruitment, and organisational scanning tools
Conclusion – summarise your key points and advicegiven/justified above. 
In order to obtain higher marks for this assignment, students are expected to use, evaluate and further analyse relevant peer-reviewed research articles as well as consider relevant CQC guidelines and field legislation.
TASK 2 – REFLECTION (20 % of the grade)
1. Write a critical reflection using either Kolb’s or Gibb’s reflective cycle. The Reflection will need to draw on the report task 1 – the analysis of leadership styles against your own leadership style as indicated by the quiz (which may or may not be accurate – that is part of own self-evaluation). 
2. What leadership style would you need to apply to help the care setting to succeed in the re-inspection (this will be partially answered in task 1), however here students need to CRITICALLY compare this with own leadership style or aspects that they identified as needing improvement.  
3. As for the nature of this critical reflection, it is possible to choose whether it will be written in an active or passive voice.
