Graphic Notes Project: You will be synthesizing your writing skills and design s

April 23, 2024

Graphic Notes Project: You will be synthesizing your writing skills and design skills to create unique graphic notes of the material we will be covering. This means you will be summarizing over the lecture/discussion notes, rephrasing the most important information in your own words, drawing out the images you find important and adding your own thoughts and images into the mix.
It is important that you consider the design of each page- create a grid system as your template and stick to it! For example, each page MUST have margins (unless there is something inspiring you from the era we are studying.) Also, you are permitted to sketch verbatim some of the images you see but you must also include YOUR original drawings and designs.  Please do not scan the images or copy with a copier and stick them into the page, they must all be your sketches. This part is to be done by hand—you may draw digitally or scan physical images you have created onto the pages.
You CANNOT bullet the text- but use complete sentences to describe what you are learning new.
Header
Design an elaborate header for each entry. The design created should relate to the chapter, reflecting the artistic movement covered or historical time period, and be unique.
Project Elements:
Part 1) Reflection on lecture/discussion
What new processes, philosophies and techniques are implemented here? Who are those driving this constant process of change? Are there innovative storytelling and narrative techniques being formed? Sum up the lecture/discussion in your own words in at least 3-4 paragraphs being sure to emphasize the facts you found most interesting. The font/text should be reflective of the time period/artistic movement—if you are composing your notes longhand (writing them out), please choose three (3) or four (4) commonly used letters and give them flair reflective of the time period or movement.
Part 2) Your own thoughts
Then reflect with your own thoughts in one (1) to two (2) paragraphs: What did you find it interesting and why? What do you like about what you have read and what you are seeing? Or, if the movement is not your taste explain that and what it is that you do not care for. How does it influence modern day art? Explain it in your own words.
Images:  Sketch the images you found most interesting and inspirational from this reading/lecture—you should have at least one (1) for each artist covered in any given unit. These images are not to be direct translations of the original works, but instead recreated in your own personal style.
Your Question (make sure to mark to draw attention to this with a special mark or icon): List at least one question that you were left with at the end of the chapter/unit.
One Example of Good “Design”:  Somewhere in your notes with an image or text- mark what you found to be the BEST work and explain why you find it to be such.
You will be turning in your graphic notes for assessment at the end of the semester on April 29, 2024 by 11:59 p.m., to be returned during final exams week.  The project will not be accepted late for any reason—NO EXCEPTIONS.
