Self-Evaluation Theory
Tesser’s self-evaluation maintenance model posits specific emotional reactions to the success or failure of a close or distant other. Give three examples from your professional experience of a time someone close to you outperformed you on tasks that were important or unimportant to your self-concept. Recall your emotional and behavioral reactions to their success. Did pride in another’s success depend on the domain in which he or she excelled?
