For this assignment, you will come up with a research question and explore it using the techniques of data analysis that we have described in class and explored in the labs.
You will develop your own research question and answer it using the General Social Survey as your source of data and doing the analysis in SPSS. The GSS Data Explorer website (https://gssdataexplorer.norc.org/ (Links to an external site.)) will be used to identify variables you will use and to download the dataset you will analyze.
All of the following components are necessary for the final paper. Keep in mind, just including tables and numbers is not sufficient for a good grade. You MUST interpret your analysis in your own words as you work through each section.
State a clear research question that is organized around the variables you have chosen from the General Social Survey.
Identify your Independent and Dependent variables.
Give a brief explanation for you research question and the relationships you are going to explore.
Descriptive statistics
A minimum of 4 variables must be used here.
Describe the variables before and after you transform them. Be sure you include the appropriate descriptives of your new variables.
Hypotheses
Generate three hypotheses
Discuss your hypotheses and why you made them
Be sure you identify the independent and dependent variables in your hypotheses.
Bivariate Analysis
Include a minimum of three bivariate analyses
Use statistical tests to determine significance of these relationships.
Describe the relationships
Discussion
Write a short discussion of what you found in your data analysis
Include a discussion about your hypotheses and whether or not they were confirmed.
Be sure you reflect on your findings and what else you may have included or done to improve your results.
