Generate and report on the trend in the violent arrest rate for the state you selected for the period 1994-2000 and for the period 2008-2014.

Christopher R. Teeple

The attachment is the sample and I chose Minnesota for the state.
please go to the following website: https://www.ojjdp.gov/ojstatbb/ezaucr/. From this site, select the “Arrest Statistics” tab. On the next page, select a state from the drop down box labeled “Select a state.” Note: The District of Columbia has missing data issues and will not be a good choice for this assignment. Next, select the “Juveniles” radio button on the “Rates” row. Next, select 1994-2000 as the time period and press the “Update Table” button. You will also need to select the 2008-2014 time period and press the “Update Table” button.
Please indicate to your group members which state you will be focusing on. It’s first come, first serve. Each group member should be reporting on a different state.
Step 1 – Generate and report on the trend in the violent arrest rate for the state you selected for the period 1994-2000 and for the period 2008-2014. Has it increased, decreased, or stayed the same? By how much as the violent arrest rate changed? What offenses appear to influence the violent arrest rate the most? Next, report on the trend in the property arrest rate for the period 1994-2000 and for the period 2008-2014. Has it increased, decreased, or stayed the same? By how much as the property arrest rate changed? What offenses appear to influence the property arrest rate the most?
Step 2 – Generate and report on the trend in the violent and property arrest rates for a county within the state that you selected from 1994-2000 and from 2008-2014. How does the trend at the county-level compare to the trend you observed at the state level? Do the same offenses appear to influence the violent and property arrest rates at the county-level as it does at the state-level? Why do suppose there is a difference or similarity between the two?
Step 3 – Discuss 3 three shortcomings with the FBI UCR data (in your assigned Mallett and Tedor readings for this week). Which of the 3 shortcomings do you believe to be most serious with respect to generating valid measures of crime? Provide a brief explanation of what you believe best explains the overall violent and property crime trends you observe. That is, what are possible reasons for the pattern? This will require that you investigate the locale you selected more closely with respect to changes that have occurred (using other sources such as job loss/growth, population change, imprisonment rate change, etc.). Elaborate on your reasoning.
Important: Each student will submit their own work. Your response should be about two pages in length. You may use graphs/tables as a part of the response length.
