Checklist for your Paper:
______ Title page on a separate page (your name, the name of the paper, the name of the course, my
name, and the date)

________ 1 inch margins all around (top, bottom, right, left) (*Note: Most computers already default
to 1” margins so you shouldn’t have to adjust them to type your paper.)

________ 4 – 5 pages in length. (Four full pages minimum). No longer than 7 pages. The title page is
not one of the 4 – 5 pages!
________ No spelling or grammar errors. This IS college! It may help to have someone look over your
paper before you turn it in so that they can catch errors you may have missed. Each error will
be counted off 1 point.
________Did you type the concept, the definition from our list, and did you use a separate paragraph for
each concept?
________Did you give a concrete, specific example? (For instance, if you use the term “Conformity” – say
how you conformed – give examples!)
________Are your examples from your own life that YOU have personally experienced? (not your
mother’s, father’s, siblings’, cousin’s, dog’s, etc. lives!)
_______Also, begin your paper at the top of the page – no name, course name, date, etc. is needed.
That’s already on the Title Page! So, begin your paper at the top of each page.
_______Also, no extra spaces between paragraphs – just flow from one paragraph to the next one.

Religion- According to Durkheim, beliefs and practices that separate the profane
from the sacred and unite its adherents into a moral community. I am a Christian, so I
don’t believe in Hinduism, Buddhism, or the Moslem faiths. For me, I believe that Jesus
is God’s Son, and that he came to earth to die for my sins. I believe that to be saved, a
person needs to believe in Jesus, confess that belief before others, change their hearts
and lives, and be baptized by immersion in water for the forgiveness of their sins. I also
believe that God loves me and I will be able to live in heaven eternally after I die
because of what Jesus did for me. I go to worship God several times a week, and with
other believers in my church I pray, sing, and read the Bible. On Sundays I partake in
the Lord’s Supper, which I believe is symbolic of the body and blood of Jesus. Believing
that Jesus died for my sins and that God listens to my prayers gives me a sense of
being loved and cared for. I also think that I am more optimistic about what will happen
in my life because I believe that in the end God will be there for me.
Deviance – the violation of social norms (or rules or expectations). I have had my
truck broken into before. I had just put in a new stereo in my old ’66 Chevrolet pickup
truck and was proud of it. We didn’t have a garage to put our cars in, so the truck was
always parked in the driveway at night. One morning as I went to get into the truck, I
noticed that the door was open! Someone had broken into the truck and stolen my
stereo system right outside my house. I called the police, but because there were no
fingerprints or witnesses and the value of the stereo wasn’t that great, there was really
nothing they could do. I learned from this not to put anything that has much value into
my cars because at any time someone could break in and steal your stuff! I also learned
that being able to put a car in a garage at night sure does protect it from being
burglarized
