Your next assignment can be modeled after the example essays at the end of each chapter. I want this assignment to be meaningful to you, so as you are deciding the topic that you will research, keep in mind the usefulness of your research and topic to your life.
As consumers, we are always in need of buying something to enhance or sustain our lives. Depending on our individual needs and stage in life, we may need to purchase a new car, or a house, rent an apartment, or rent a car or an AirB&B for vacation. We may need a dependable pair of shoes to wear while working long hours standing on our feet as a server, teacher, nurse or doctor. We may need to plan a trip to visit family or see a place on our bucket list. Maybe you are interested in a new hobby like growing your own food, or learning photography. Perhaps you may want to learn to fix your own car or learn how to remodel your hardwood floors. You may want to buy a new bike for your child, perhaps you are deciding on which smartphone or I-phone you are going to purchase.
I want you to think about a topic that will enhance your life. Research a topic that can be useful to you in the immediate future as a consumer. When deciding to make big life decision or big purchases, it behoves you to conduct your own independent research to be a smart, suave consumer and make the market work for you instead of being a victim of mindless consumerism.
**Write a Consumer Advocacy Essay that includes the following:
Write a Consumer Advocacy Essay about the product, service or topic etc. that you researched.
Make a claim about the research that you have conducted.
Follow the CER pattern (claim, evidence and reasoning to describe your arguments about the research).
You should use 4-5 primary and secondary sources.
Cite the sources in-text and in Works Cited Page in MLA format at the end of the essay.
Use a variety of sources.
You should either take a serious or humorous approach to your essay. (See the example essays at the end of each chapter.)
The essay should be 2-4 typed pages 12 pt. Times New Roman (or compromising size and font).
The essay should be informative and persuasive.
Include examples of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in language and examples.
