For your two remaining projects this semester (a proposal and a white paper), you are going to research, write about, and propose an idea or initiative that will help students at Lone Star College. NOTE: You may not use a paper that you have already completed for a different course. For this post, I simply want you to think about a challenge that students at Lone Star College face and how the college could help students with that challenge. This post may help lead you to a good topic for your project. Listed below is an outline you can follow for this post:
Paragraph 1: The Challenge. For this first paragraph, outline a challenge that you think students at LSC face. Challenges might include financial aid for students, advising of first-year students, transferring from a two-year to a four-year college, connecting online students to campus life, food insecurity among college students, etc. Illustrate the challenge in two ways: with an current news article that illustrates the challenge and with an example or observation of the challenge.
Paragraph 2: A Current LSC Initiative or Resource. For the second paragraph, explain what LSC does currently to address this problem. You can gather information from physical observation if you attend one of the campus or from online resources if you are exclusively an online student. To develop this section, use at least two patterns of development from unit 1: description, process analysis, comparison/contrast, division/classification, exemplification.
Paragraph 3: Research. For the third paragraph, explain how you might research this problem. When looking at other colleges that have similar resources, what questions will you ask? When reading academic research, what research questions do you want to answer in order to solve this problem?
Paragraph 4: Conclusion. For the fourth paragraph, explain why LSC needs to solve this problem. What will happen if we solve the problem? What will happen if we don’t solve the problem?
