For your policy assignment you were tasked with identifying a social welfare problem and current policy addressing the issue. As with so many of our social welfare problems, our policies are not sufficient in holistically addressing the problem. Student groups should identify an individual or family example that highlights the prevalence of the problem you have identified. You are free to discuss multiple individuals or families if you desire. You should also have a holistic picture of the status of the need in America by identifying statistics that report prevalence of the issue. For example, what is the rate of homelessness or how many Americans are currently homeless and what are the consequences of this. The individual or family identified should clearly illustrate the impact of the lack of resources on individual or family functioning. Student should then discuss the effectiveness of a local agency/effort that is addressing the issue. For instance, if your case centers around homelessness, the group would identify an individual or family that is homeless and a local agency whose mission is to address this problem. The student will then look at the services provided, the duration of the services and the qualifications or requirements for receiving services to determine if the services available adequately meets the need. The deficiency of services and/or resources available to meet the need should guide the remaining portions of your portfolio assignment.
This assignment should be a minimum of three pages in length. References should be used to support the content. There is no minimum requirement of references, however only 1 textbook can be used for the entire portfolio. Those used can also be used in your policy proposal and/or analysis. The paper must be professionally written, edited and cited using APA format.
