In the sustainability movement regarding the environment there are many opposing ideas and organizations that actively utilize creative works to demonstrate their message. In the utility industry many organizations utilize negative context in their creative works to demonstrate their views of the utilization of fossil fuels being negative. For example, XRDC, a division of Extinction Rebellion, is an organization that promotes against that use of fossil fuels for energy and promotes a fully electric form of fuel for everything such as heating, transportation, and power. The creative works the use in banners and advertisements display large X’s and “Danger” signs to show their idea of fossil fuels in a negative context. In response, the local gas utility responds with social media posts and advertisements displaying green lettering and a picture that provides warmth and comfort. This helps the individual see that fossil fuels provide comfort and safety until alternative forms of energy can be safely and efficiently developed to replace the existing forms of energy.
The roles of individuals in this diverse sustainability movement should be to have an open mind and to hear each side out. As there are many different points of view, I think it is important to let everyone’s voice be heard. Individuals should also make informed decisions about their standpoint on the issues. We have seen in the past that when drastic actions are taken, an immediate effect could be seen however there are many long-term effects that may not be understood prior to the actions being taken such as employment, energy independence and economic pricing.
Since completing this course, I realize now that the creative works have more than just one meaning. Various forms of creative works can exist with duplicate messages being sent by the author. I feel I have learned a lot about interpretation of creative works and how to better understand the messages within the works. Overall, this class was a great experience in this journey through obtaining a degree. Best of luck to the rest of the class!

Hello everyone!
One creative work that is on the opposing side of the sustainability movement is the novel “Atlas Shrugged” written by Ayn Rand. This is a book that supports anti regulation of sources and does not support the movement at hand. As the believe that this movement will limit personal achievement and personal freedom. Another work that does not support the sustainability is the book “State of Fear” written by Michael Crichton this is a book where eco-terrorists make natural disasters to promote the ideas of global warming.
Individuals can help support the sustainability movement is by recycling, conserving energy, composting, etc. Doing these simple things such as recycling or unplugging appliances that are not being used will help with pollution and help conserve energy.
After taking this course it has made me more aware of how many things go on in peoples very diverse communities and how they come together for a greater cause, along with all of the creative things that are created and how they are represented. Also allowing me to see further into cultures and seeing others perspectives from different points of view.
