For this project, you are to construct a survey.  You are to create a survey that is direclty related to your topic of interest (this is important in terms of validity).
As such, you can tailor your questions to elaborate upon that particular topic.
With that being said, what type of questions would you include in your survey? There are a few things to consider when completing this assignment.
Will they be open-ended, closed-ended, or a combination of both? Which are easier to quantify?
Why would we want to include some open-ended questions in terms of qualitative research?
Will you use a likert scale? This would include the following:     Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Neutral, Agree, Strongly Agree
I would like for you to focus on the construction and wording. You my incorporate open-ended and/or closed-ended questions.
As found in Chapter 5 make sure to avoid the following:
Leading/biased questions
Double Barreled questions
Vague questions
Example: Poverty and Crime
Do lower income areas have higher crime rates?
You would include a section regarding various ranges of income. This includes the branching method, as found in Chapter 6.
You could also include a section discussing demographics.
You would also emphasize whether or not they’ve ever been convicted for a crime. Upon doing so, you would begin to evaluate whether or not there is a correlation found between lower income households and crime.
Please keep in mind that there are various factors to take into consideration when coducting a study. However, for purposes of this assignment I would like for you to focus on the construction of the questions and/or statements you find relevant.
Parameters:
The survey should be 2-3 pages (can be more, if necessary)
Does the survey include basic important demographic questions relevant to your survey?
Are the questions reflective of your concept and are variables operationalized effectively?
Are the questions and answers setup in a way that answers could be coded for statistical analysis?
Does it appear that basic checks for validity were used in creating the questions in the survey?
Is the terminology specific in your questions or does it allow for multiple subjective interpretations on the part of the respondent?
Is the survey formatted in a neat and professional matter?
