For this journal students are expected to:
1. Choose a video from a social media source that depicts advice or discusses the topics/concept we cover during the first half of the semester. Students should not choose a video longer than 5 minutes.
Questions to keep in mind while watching the video
What implications might this video have on its audience? For example, if the information provided is inaccurate, how can this misinformation influence its audience? If accurate what are possible benefits for the targeted audience of the social media source? Is the video only targeting a certain population or community? What information should the author of the video include to better inform their audience? What did the author of the video do well to engage their audience? What would you have done differently given the information you have learned? Is the author of the video credible (e.g. a psychologist, doctor, expert)? (**Note: The answers to these questions could help you write section 3 and 4 of your paper)
2. Discuss what concept is being explained on the video, why the information the author is sharing is important for their audience, and how the concept and its sub concepts are applied throughout the video (e.g., Is it from a credible source?).
3. Lastly, compare how these concepts are explained by the source versus how our book discussed it. How can this media source be problematic or helpful for the audience?
4. This journal should be two full pages, double spaced, and in APA style. Students will receive feedback from a peer a week before the final paper is due (Student will post a rough draft of their paper to our “Discussion Board 6” where each student will provide feedback to one peer paper).  Be sure to site all sources.
You are encouraged to organize your paper the following way:
Description of the source
What is the video about? What concepts are being discussed?
Description of the concept and life period
How is the concept explained in the book
Compare your chosen concept and life stage in our book to how it was discussed in the video
What aspect of the concept were discussed on the video that are not discussed in the book or visa versa? How was the concept portrayed in the video compared to how is presented in your book.
