For this course you will be writing up a case study application paper. We are not asking you to be a psychologist in this assignment and realize that we have touched only on a few disorders.  However, this paper will still allow you to make a diagnosis.
Here is an outline of what I am looking for in your case study.
What is a case study?  A case study is a background of an individual that allows us to formulate a proper diagnosis.  The background often includes early life experiences,(that are only relevant to formulate a diagnosis) education, any health issue or mental health issues, family dynamics and history as well as employment, and relationships.
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE AREA AS THIS WILL ASSIST YOU IN WRITING YOUR CASE STUDY FOR THIS COURSE.
1) To complete this assignment, you will write a case study of a client who meets the criteria for one of the disorders listed in the DSM-5. You will select a character from a movie, novel, show, someone from social media. YOU CANNOT WRITE ABOUT SOMEONE YOU KNOW, NO FAMILY OR FRIENDS, YOURSELF OR A CARTOON CHARACTER.
THE PERSON CAN BE SOMEONE WHO IS DECEASED.  FOR EXAMPLE, YOU MAY WANT TO WRITE ABOUT CHARLES MANSON WHO IS DECEASED. YOU MAY ALSO WRITE ABOUT AN ACTOR OR ACTRESS WHO IS ALIVE OR HAS PASSED AWAY.
2)   As you complete this assignment, please keep in mind these guidelines: clients often meet the criteria for more than one DSM-5 diagnosis. If there is more than one diagnosis, then you must discuss these in your paper.
3) Now that you selected the person you want to write about you will now being the paper:  Follow these steps: You may use these areas in your paper and bullet each section for the case study.
a) Client Background:  In this section of your paper you will discuss why the client has come to see you. Then you need to discuss the background such as history of any health, mental illnesses.  You are going to have to address their education, work, family history and current relationships.  Is there any history of substance abuse?  Are there any issues in their development?   Please make sure that you are clear and specific as you describe your client’s struggles or symptoms (imagine someone else is going to read your case to double-check to make sure you assigned the right diagnosis) 1 PAGE
b) Diagnosis:  After reviewing the background of your client, you will then provide a diagnosis.  In this section, discuss the diagnosis and discuss the criteria to meet this diagnosis.  What are the symptoms/CRITERIA one must have to be diagnosed with the disorder? Does this disorder overlap with another diagnosis?  You may want to discuss the prognosis for this diagnosis.  1 1/2 PAGE
c)  Rational for your diagnosis:   Discuss in this area, what are the signs or what was told to you by the client that allowed you to make this diagnosis?  .Provide a brief rationale as to why you feel your assigned diagnosis is appropriate or accurate.  What has been the ultimate cause or causes for this diagnosis?  Is there a chemical imbalance and if so, what chemical is talking about depression. 1 PAGE
d)  Treatments:  Discuss what treatments you would recommend and how they will benefit this client.  Be sure to explain how this treatment would work for this client.  Maybe the client needs CBT.  How would this benefit the client? 1 PAGE.  YOU ARE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT OF TREATMENT VIA THE USE OF A PEER REVIEWED ARTICLE.  FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU RECOMMEND MARIJUANA FOR TREATMENT, BACK THIS UP WITH SOMETHING YOU HAVE READ AND CITE THIS.
E) Final recommendations for your client:  If they are using substances, would you recommend replacing with another or stop all together. If they are in a bad relationship, what would you recommend for them.  IF YOU DISCUSS A TREATMENT PLAN SUCH AS CBT, THEN YOU NEED TO DESCRIBE WHAT THIS IS AND HOW IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED. 1/2 PAGE
F) One of your sources must be a journal article which addressed the disorder.  You must use this article in your paper when describing symptoms and treatments.
Your case should be typed, between 4-5 pages, double spaced 12-point font.  A minimum of 2 sources must be used.  APA must be used when citing.
You may use your ebook, DSM, and journal articles for your paper.  I do not mind internet sources as long as they are reliable and valid areas.
.
NO MORE THAN 7 PAGES. PLEASE LOOK IN THE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS ON THE LEFT SIDE FOR ASSISTANCE.
Point Total: 110 points
