For this assignment, you will use what you’ve learned about theories of behavior change to design a health intervention that could potentially improve the health of a population or a subset of the population. First, pick a disorder or health condition that interests you (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, depression, obesity, etc.). Next, do some research into the condition and find a health intervention (i.e. some sort of attempt at changing behavior in a way that promotes good health) that has evidence to support it being used to prevent the occurrence of the disorder. Then, devise a health promotion effort that is based on either the health belief model or theory of planned behavior that could be used to convince a group of people to participate in the new healthy behavior.
Your paper should be approximately 1-2 single-spaced pages and consist of the following components:
1) Describe the condition and why it is a threat to public health.
2) Discuss the evidence supporting the behavior you wish to promote.
3) Outline your plan, based on either the health belief model or theory of planned behavior, for promoting a behavioral change in a susceptible group of people. Make sure you emphasize the ways in which your plan is designed specifically with the health belief model or theory of planned behavior in mind.
Be sure to use in-text citations any time you refer to another author’s ideas. You should use at least one peer-reviewed source found through the University Libraries for this assignment; include a reference for this at the bottom of your paper. Your paper should be a minimum of around 1 single-spaced page, excluding your reference list, name, and title. Do not use any direct quotes from external sources for this assignment.
