For this assignment, you will complete and submit your essay based on one of the five topics provided (My topic is: Topic 5: The French Revolution as Global Event) in the course syllabus. You will also be able to draw upon the formative feedback you have received based on Part 1 of the essay project (critical evaluation of reading). Ideally, the topic you choose for the essay has remained the same through the process, but even if you changed your mind between Part 1 and Part 2, the skills you have employed and the feedback you have received should benefit you with the final draft.
Topic 5: Based on your selection of the works below, to what extent (and why) should we regard the French Revolution as transforming societies and peoples? Why, in your view, do these scholars offer such diverse explanations?
Word count: 1,200 words (+/-10%). Footnotes/endnotes and bibliography are NOT counted against your essay word limit.
Weighting: 20% of final mark (NOTE: this may be adjusted in your favour depending upon completion of Part 1)
・I attached the document of part one named as “103 Essay Part 1 KAIRI MATSUO.pdf”
・For Part one, essential reading was : Lynn Hunt, ‘The World We Have Gained: The Future of the French Revolution’,American Historical Review 108 (2003), pp. 1-19.
・I also attached 3 other sources. I put 1 of 3, 1of 3, 3 of 3. so it’s clear I hope.
How the components of the essay project (parts 1 and 2) count towards your course grade
The total weighting of the essay project is 30% of your final grade. If your percentage mark for Part 2 (1,200 word essay) is higher than your mark on Part 1 (critical evaluation), then your percentage mark on Part 2 will count as the full 30% weighting.
Since Part 1 is intended to provide you with formative feedback and help you write a better essay, it has been designed so that submitting it cannot reduce your essay mark.  The Part 1 mark may pull up your average (if it is higher than the Part 2 mark), but it will not lower your mark.
If you submit ONLY Part 2 of the essay project without also submitting Part 1, the overall weighting of your essay project will be capped at 25% of the final grade.  In other words, not submitting Part 1 will reduce your possible grade by half the weighting of that assignment component (costing you 5% of the final course mark).
As an assurance of academic integrity, we may request that students who have submitted the 1,200 word essay but have not completed Part 1 to supply us with all essay research notes and rough drafts as a condition of having Part 2 accepted for marking.
