For the second part of the assignment you will read the Methods and Results sections.
After reading both sections you will work backwards from the data in each figure or table. Your goal is to determine what experiment was performed. To do this, you will:
- Diagram each experiment as a cartoon that shows the method used.
- Annotate the figures with clarifying labels.
- Write your own descriptive title for each cartoon and each figure in your own words.
Once again, the simplest way to submit this assignment may be to take pictures of your work with your mobile device or scan them into a PDF.
Key tips:
- For each figure that you draw a cartoon for, depict what was physically done in each experiment. The point is to not show the results or restate the author’s description from the Results section.
- Do not worry about your artistic ability. I am looking to see that you comprehend the key points of the experimental methods used in the paper, not to see how well you can draw.
- Make sure that you describe your illustration and the original figure in YOUR OWN WORDS.
- It’s okay if you don’t understand all of the methods. Do as much as you can and remember that this is to learn the process of taking a paper apart and analyzing it, not becoming an expert on this specific paper.
