For the final project, your challenge is to create a slide presentation that is at least 10 minutes (with a lot of speaker notes. extremely detailed.) This presentation will be shared with book club members. The goal is to highlight social psychological concepts that deepens the readers’ understanding of the actions of the character(s) and/or events in the novel of the Namesake. (this is a social psychology class so keep that in mind and this project is about social psychology within the novel, “The Namesake”).
First, select and describe a topic covered in the class of social psycholoy, (use the powerpoint attachment below to help you choose.. there are many topics within each powerpoint that I have attached), that you believe is illustrated in the novel. In this section, your primary objective is to teach book club members about social psychology. As such, BE SURE TO define the terms you introduce and fully describe the topic by outlining the theory and describing relevant data.
Second, apply and connect the social psychology that you just explained to the character(s)/action in the novel. Make certain that your applications are clearly and explicitly described so that the book club members have a full understanding of both the social psychological concept selected and its application.
Third, select a character from the Ganguli family, including Moushumi, and choose a social psychological concept that helps illustrate nuances of the character’s experience that readers may not note that allows others to empathize with them. As you did above, first explain the concept and then make the connection to the character in such a way that highlights new insight and facilitates empathy for the character that readers may not have felt previously.
