For my final project, I have chosen to write about the Civil Rights Movement in the US. The Civil Right Movement was an important era in US history, throughout the 1950s and 1960s. During this period there was a shift in American society which called for racial equality and a change in how African Americans were being treated. This was accomplished through multiple different actions such as protests, legal proceedings, and other forms of activism. The Civil Rights Movement is a highly significant moment in the US history as it changed the social fabric of the country. Through this movement the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were passed. These legislative changes completely changed the future for America as it called for an end to racial discrimination and termed racially discriminatory practices in the electoral process, illegal. This topic is significant to me and connects to my identity as my maternal grandmother and some of my closest friends are African Americans, and I have heard the stories passed down through their families about the Civil Rights movement.
