First way that the New Testament talks about conflict is when Jesus tell his disciples to carry around a sword. Scripturally speaking, there is a time when justice must choose violence in order for justice to be established. Scripturally speaking, there is a time for war (Eccl 3:8). Hauerwas admits that participate in war in the name of justice cannot be discounted as a possibility for Christians (p. 114-115). However, he says that most the time that justice is not really the underlying issue of why a war is waged. Then he goes on to say that true justice is never established through violence.
Another way that the New Testament talks about peace is “peace with God.” This is a major theme of the New Testament as it is at the centre of Jesus’ mission: to help people to return to God and cultivate a close relationship with God, which the New Testament often refers to as “peace with God.” See Romans chapter 5, especially verses 1 & 11.
The whole of Matthew chapters 5-7, traditionally called “the sermon on the mount” can be said to talk about peace. Jesus preaches the Sermon on the Mount—Its teachings replace and transcend some aspects of the law of Moses—All are commanded to be perfect like their Father in Heaven. “Blessed are the amerciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Conclotion
Regarding peace in the Bible, it is important to remember that these are four ways that the New Testament speaks about peace: First, having peace with God, i.e., being in good relationship with God. Second, experiencing inner peace within when life is hard. Third, Making and maintaining peace between ourselves and other people. Fourth, making peace between other people who are not getting along well or are at war with each other.
