First Paper:
Title: The Impact of Nurse-Led Education on Glycemic Control in Adult Diabetes Patients.
Second Paper:
Title: Evaluating the Efficacy of Peer Support Programs for Diabetes Management in Community Settings.
The two articles should also be primary research They should both be investigating the same broad topic area but may have different aims/questions. They can employ the same research techniques/ methods/ procedures of use different ones.
You are advised to use a structured search (e.g., PEO, PICO, PICOS, SPIDER etc.); however, you can still demonstrate your competence by using a range of search techniques such as Boolean Operators (to combine keywords); truncation, wild cards. clinical articles.
Make sure you use high-quality, peer-reviewed sources.
To ensure currency of evidence, the two main articles you select should have been published in the past five years.
1 Introduction, EG. The essay will discuss the research methods used and ethical issues arising from two primary research papers that were conducted on my chosen topic of….. Two or three sentences max! We want you to direct the reader to it from this section of your essay (see appendix)
2 Literature search, EG.Tell us which database you searched and justify the choice with a piece of literature Then tell us about your search e.g. Tell us that you constructed a search using PEO, PICO or some other because they help structure the search (and give us a reference to support that) Tell us you combined synonyms with the Boolean operator “OR” because Bloggs et al (2020) says its a fab thing to do. Tell us you combined key words with Boolean operator “AND” because….. Tell us about the limits you put on your search (e.g. “last 5 yrs”) and why (using literature). Tell us how many results it left you to select from
3. Cite/ reference the 2 papers you have selected and give us a 2 or 3 sentence overview of each The second was……
4 Specify which aspect(s) of their research methods you will be focusing on (max of 2 methods) and define those methods using relevant literature.EG. 5 Discuss the pros and cons of the method(s) as used in each paper (i.e. not just from a purely theoretical perspective
6 Discuss any ethical issues in the papers that you identify as worthy of discussion (ie stuff that sits within Beauchamp and Childress’ 4 ethical principles) .EG.All research in the UK requires ethical approval before it can proceed ..however the second ..
7 Brief conclusion. Simply state what you want readers to take away from your work
8 Reference list.EG.Include everything you have cited Yes, even your two main papers Follow APA 7 guidelines 7) Sense check the list, if its all references to clinical articles.
Make sure you use high quality, peer reviewed sources. Don’t reference random webpages that have no real quality control.
9.Appendix. You should use screen capture (e.g., Ctrl + Prtscn) to evidence your search and include this image as an appendix to your assignment which you should signpost readers to from the account of your search (see example).
