Read Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” and watch/listen to Noah St. John’s
“The Last Mile.” Look at the Freytag Pyramid power point before starting your
critique.
BEFORE you begin your critique, consider the following questions:
How do you think the Chopin and St. John stories use the Freytag Pyramid as a foundation for plot action? What do you think is the climax for each story?
Why do you think this is the climax?
Directions for writing the Critique:
Discuss ONE important theme in each story. How does this theme function in
the text? How does this theme relate to each of the junctures of plot action
outlined in the Freytag Pyramid? For example, how does the theme play out in
the rising action, climax, and dénouement? Why is your chosen theme
important in each section of the plot? In your discussion, you want to use the
literary terminology in the Freytag Pyramid PowerPoint, like exposition, climax,
etc.
When you post your critique, put your chosen themes in the subject heading.
Keep in mind that in order to get credit, ALL critiques must be at least 300
WORDS total. This means that you want to write 150 words minimum on
