Final Exam: For your final exam, you are to research local substance abuse treatment options within your community or hometown. You are to examine the centers and offerings, thinking critically about the issues highlighted within this course. Provide a summary of the resources available within a 30-mile radius. Who do they serve? What levels of care are provided? What are the payment options available, etc?
Below are some questions to consider as you review the facilities.
· Imagine being a SUD provider in the area and needing treatment for yourself or a colleague, what might be some of the issues you would need to consider? Are there changes or enhancements that could be made to best support such individuals?
· What about for minors? Are there programs for youth within a reasonable distance? How could services be adapted to support minors and their families? As clinicians working with youth—what are some unique things to keep in mind as it relates to confidentiality and ethical practice?
· What about members of other marginalized groups, do the resources appear to ethically address and support the care of individuals with these needs? Racial and ethnic differences? Gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation? Religious beliefs?
· Could cost or access to insurance or transportation hinder someone’s ability to attend?
· What are some evidence-based practices that could be implemented at these facilities to address such needs? Be sure to provide a summary of any recommendations with rationale.
In your program assessment, consider everything you have learned about the NAADAC code of ethics and equitable practice. End your critique with a reflection on what this exercise was like for you. What did you come to realize about the reviewed offerings? If you were the head of one such program, what changes (if any) would you now be advocating for? Are there gaps in the resources that need to be addressed?
You will need to utilize several resources, some of which require research outside of the materials you have reviewed to date. Be sure that your sources are credible (no Wikipedia, etc) and appropriately cited. This assignment should range between 8-10 pages and be submitted per APA formatting.
