FILM AND TELEVISION STUDIES DEGREE NOT MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS
Conduct a piece of independent research on a topic related to this module (key words include gender, sexuality and media). This piece of research must contain primary data ie. A media text or practice and use concepts and theories eg, queer theory, transgender studies, feminism and masculinity studies from the module. Please design your own research question and essay title.
If you have difficulty coming up with your own essay question, here is a option for you: drawing on the theories we have learned on this module, analyse a media text or practice of your choice. (Here media is defined broadly to include film, television, journalism, digital media, visual and performance art, social and political activism. Etc)
Please note you cant use the same case study as in your dissertation or previous essays. You can however use concepts and theories from previous works and modules. Avoid self plagiarism.
Presentation: Double spaced and paginated with at least 1” margin on all sides.
Question should be something like this:
“How do gender and sexuality intersect with media representation in the film ‘White Chicks’? Conduct an independent research study analyzing the portrayal of gender and sexuality in the movie, exploring themes of identity, power dynamics, and cultural stereotypes within the context of contemporary media.”
