EXTRA CREDIT – A Matter of Life & Death
Worth up to 5% of your overall grade.
PLEASE NOTE: Entire paper should be no less than 1000 words.

For this exercise, please consider the content of Chapter 19, and answer/discuss the
following two parts:
1) One of the questions this chapter starts with is… “What is the relationship between life
and death?”
When we take into consideration this question, we have to think about how the
perspective of death for any one individual is directly related to their beliefs on two major
things… 1) the quality of the life lived, 2) the belief of what’s awaiting them in the after-
life.
For this part, please take the following two things into consideration and answer that
“relationship” question for yourself.
a) How do you personally view the relationship?
b) How does this impact the perception of your own mortality?

2) Ultimately, a hope for this class is that we learn to appreciate life more as we more
closely examine the reality and certainty of death and dying. Whether as a consequence
of walking through the text/prompts, and/or through your own lived experiences, please
discuss how your perception of “living life” has been impacted by the process we’ve
walked through in this course.
a) Have you been awakened to any specific revelations or realizations?
b) Has your attitude or perception on death and dying shifted in any way?
c) What lessons will you take with you as a result of walking through the text and/or
prompts?
d) Is there anything else you’d like to mention on what you’ve learned?
