Exploring the Impacts of Social Contexts on Child Psychology and Development
Title Examples: “Exploring the Impact of Racism/Prejudice/Socio-economic
status/Poverty on Child Development”
Content: Reflect on what you have learned about the role of social contexts on
child psychology and development. Your blog should include:
Course Connection: Based on what you learned in class, how has
racism/prejudice/SES/poverty impacted child development?
Research: Choose one area (mental health, education, peer relationships, physical development) and discuss how racism/prejudice/socioeconomic have impacted these areas.
Include a summary and critique of one scholarly, peer review study
that was published in the last 10 years (anything earlier will receive a deduction in points) and one secondary source (i.e., podcast or news report at minimum 10 minutes long and produced within the last 10
years)
Conclusion Section. Taking everything that you have learned together
(course material, research, and podcast/news report), what conclusions
can you draw? What are some of your personal reflections from these
resources? What are some key takeaways for your reader?
Be sure to include the following:
Photos/images throughout the blog (at least 3).
Link to the article and podcast that you discussed.
Structure of Blog
Begin with a summary of what you learned in class related to your chosen topic (100-200 words)
Summary of the research study that you found on your chosen topic (100-200 words).
Summary of the podcast or news report (100-200 words)
Critique of the study and podcast/news report.
Conclusion, personal reflections, and key takeaways from your blog entry.
Formatting
Can be any font style that is legible to the reader, but font size must be no larger than 14.
Minimum word count for blog entries is 600 words.
Blogs must be written in paragraph form, no bullet points allowed.
Proper grammar and punctuation must be used. Blogs can be written in
first, second, or third person point of view.
Citations must be included. You must cite the book, your article, and the
podcast in APA style. Citations should be included in-text and a separate
reference section should be included at the end of your blog.
