This week’s lecture focuses on the Big 5 players in the policy process. Of course, only government – whether local, county, state, federal – can pass laws, but those entities outside of government have a large role to play in crafting and influencing the content of a law.
ASSIGNMENT. This week’s assignment is a HOMEWORK due on Friday, June 25 by 2pm. As a homework, it is worth 15points and there is no class mate response required. In a submission of not more than 3 paragraphs, consider one of the following: Advocates, the Public, the Media, Researchers or Professionals – and explain why you think this group is the most important influencer of a health policy outside of government. You must use at least 3 specific examples to bolster your argument. Make sure you bold your examples.

You must use at least 3 examples to support your assertions about the role of your Big 5 participant.
Specificity counts! When you choose one of the Big 5, you must NARROW your focus to a certain entity. For example, if you choose Advocates, you need to focus on a specific group within that entity, such as, Planned Parenthood or the National Rifle Association (don’t use these examples!) Another example – for Media, you could reference a social media platform (but not social media in general) or a traditional media outlet such as CNN. For the Public, you could present polls and for Researchers or Professionals, and example might be the CDC or Nurse Practitioners.
In grading these assignments, I am looking for APPROPRIATE use of class terms, original ideas, critical thinking and SPECIFIC examples. Generalities and vague comments are discouraged. If you make an assertion, I expect that you will support it with a specific example.
Make sure you use paragraphs and proper grammar.
