Description:
A major way to learn effectively about applied microeconomics is by continual and active application of the concepts developed in the course. To this end, each student will be expected to complete a 6–8page research paper, typed, double-spaced – excluding the title and works-cited pages. It must cover a topic that is relevant to applied microeconomics. Topics can be chosen from the text, lecture, newspapers, journals, or personal experience. The research paper is designed to move students beyond the text and the classroom into the real world of applied microeconomics. The goal is to find examples in current publications, personal experience, and other sources or events that illustrate the relevance of concepts and theories developed in the course. Be sure to correctly cite all sources and references. In lieu of in-class presentation, online students should post their PowerPoint slides along with the research paper in the designated folder on Blackboard for this assignment, by midnight on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Late postings will not count. More information about the research paper will be provided in the course of the semester.
Before beginning your paper, please, peruse the rubric below which will be used to evaluate your narrative:
1. Explain why you have chosen to write about this particular topic. In other words, what is the rationale for the topic selection, or what relevance does it have for you, your company/employer, or the course?
2. Identify and explain the applied microeconomic concept, model or theory that you believe is especially applicable to the topic you have selected. Be sure to explain the concept, theory or model that you are focusing on.
3. Be sure to address alternative viewpoints or theories after a scholarly review of the
literature.
4. Pay attention to clarity of thought and organization and use effective prose.
5. In conclusion, state your position, and identify at least one key takeaway or insight you gained
from reflecting on and writing about this topic, issue, or problem.
6. When writing your narrative, make certain that you check your grammar and spelling.
Include a cover page, an introduction, conclusion, and a works-cited page with your narrative.
7. All papers must follow the APA guidelines.
Explain why you have chosen to write about this particular topic.
