Another way the change in demographics may influence American education is in how teachers are trained. According to Internet World Stats, (as cited in Pulliam & Van Patten, 2013) the three top languages used on the internet in 2010 were English, Chinese, and Spanish, each can be predicted to have increased since 2010. Teachers will therefore need to develop different skills in problem solving and how to teach and evaluate information so that students can continue the goal of life-long learning in our globally open society (Pulliam & Van Patten, 2013). Educators may also need ESL specializations to help best practices in teaching where English is not the first language. Again, where I teach, having knowledge in ESL best practices helps with my international students, often we use language that students sometimes misunderstand, and this can cause problems with learning the content. The faculty discuss ways to write scenarios and questions that can best serve our students, so the focus is on content and not trying to figure out wording that may be unnecessary anyway.
