ENG 112 Proposal AssignmentProposal Essay: Students must complete a proposal (problem/solution) essay that offers a feasible remedy to an issue each student has chosen (from the Millennium Project’s list of 15 Global Challenges) in MLA format.Students will show the following in the paper:1.What the problem is, including its history and current status, and discuss it in your paper. To do this, research the issue fully. Use your research, citing it carefully, to show the reading your in-depth knowledge of the issue, gained from your research. Be sure to present more than one side to the issue and avoid sounding biased in your presentation.2.Your specific way to solve your topic/issue and initiate change–After research, it is the time to propose change and persuade your audience to action. You need to argue for a specific recommendation that you believe will make a change in dealing with this topic/issue. Explain what you propose should be done about this topic/issue and offer realistic recommendations.Your solution should be your own and not “borrowed” from any research on the topic.3.Logical reasoning and evidence that defends your recommendations- A proposal is still an argumentwhere you need to prove that this solution can work. Your reasoning and evidence should focus on feasibility (it can be achieved with available resources) and implementation (how it should be completed). Again, you are not just stating why your solution should happen; you are explaining what is needed and how it can happen. Consider looking at parallel situations and what people have done to handle similar problems.4.Your ability to target your audience and craft the proposal using situationally appropriate style- Proposals are generally targeted to a specific group of people who can help initiate change on the matter. You need to be able to identify who those people are and craft your proposal with them in mind. The writing should be formal, clear, and concise.5.You understand how to properly create in-text citations and a Works Cited page using MLA guidelines.Requirements to complete the assignment:1.Write a minimum of seven to nine (full) pageproposal paper (not including your Works Cited page) thatfocuses on offering a solution to your topic/issue.2.Use MLA format throughout. All sources listed must be cited in the body of the paper. Any source not cited does not count as a source. 3.Incorporate and properly cite a minimum of 5-7 sources (from CPCC Library databases, such as ProQuestor Global Issues in Context). Use NO Internet sources for this.4.A short paper like this should use shorter quotes. You can only use one longer, indented quote in this paper.
Topic:For this assignment, you are to choose one of the topics from the 15 challenges listed by the Millennium Project. Based on the topic you choose, create a proposed solution to the challenge.“The Millennium Project” is a global “think tank” focused on improving humanity’s prospects for building a better future. How can everyone have sufficient clean water without conflict? You must look at these topics in details here at this web site:http://www.millennium-project.org/projects/challenges/This web site has information on these issues, and you can use this site as one source (properly cited) in your paper. Your other four sources will need to come from the CPCC library research database, ProQuest, or the database Global Issues in Context.
Note that since this proposal is fairly short (business and science proposals are often much longer than this), you don’t (and can’t) create a solution to the whole problem. Instead, consider something you could propose that in some even small way can tackle the challenge.
