This essay will be written in APA format. You must cite your sources, plus use in-text citations. If you need help understanding how to format correct for APA, click here: APA Format Style Help from Purdue University (Links to an external site.)
Please, ask for help if you need it!
If you don’t understand APA format, again – ask for help!
You must have at least 5 sources from the internet or library.
Rubric:
General Info: 30 points
Critical Thinking: 100 points
Critique: 120 points
Word Count: 150 points
On the word count, I expect you to hit 750 words for both. Even if your overall word count is 1500 or more words, if one section (2D or 3D) is less than 750 words, you’ll be deducted 75 points for the word count on that section. (For example: If your entire document is 1500 words, but the 2D is 900 words and the 3D is 600 words, you would lose 75 points for not meeting the word count for the 3D section.) Don’t lose points because you were short words!
NOTE: Any headings, in-text citations, abstracts, and/or references WILL NOT count towards your word count.
Don’t add, ‘fluff.’ ‘Fluff’ is content that is clearly an attempt to hit word count without meeting the expectations – repeating statements, making claims that aren’t pertinent to the assignment, etc. Any time I run across, ‘fluff,’ I will count that against your word count.
Avoid dropping in large, direct quotes from others. The purpose of the papers is to show you can read the work of other people and then synthesize that into your own words.
Occasionally there are reasons to quote a whole sentence, but never more than that. If your direct quotes take up more than 15% (225 words) of your essay, I will count it against the word count
Don’t try to provide ‘speed’ responses. For example, ‘The artist is . The painting is .’ If it’s clear you are not putting an effort into genuinely diving into the content and simply trying to hurry up and finish the assignment, I will deduct 75 points.
Make sure you reach the word count for both. If your total word count is 1500 words, but one section is short of the word count requirement, you’ll lose 75 points.
APA Formatting/Sources: 200 points. If you do not cite your sources at the end – even if you have in-text citations – you will automatically lose 250 points.
If your references aren’t formatted correctly, you will lose 75 points.
If you don’t have any in-text citations, you will lose 75 points. If you don’t format the in-text citations properly, you will lose 25 points.
Don’t submit an abstract. I want you to be able to focus your writing on the assigned topic.
Don’t use headings or title information. This can easily make you think you are hitting your word count. I don’t want you to lose points because you think you’ve hit the word count.
If you do not have 5 sources, you will lose 10 points per source missing.
Grammar/Formatting
You will lose 1 point for each grammar error.
If your paragraphs are too short/long or the paragraphs are not indented appropriately, you will lose 10 points.
