The theories of comparative politics explain much more than just the politics of states. In fact, many of the concepts discussed during this course can be directly applied to all sorts of stories. Your mission for this assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to use two concepts/theories of comparative politics discussed during this course to explain actors’ behavior in a film or book of your choice (e.g. nationalism, clash of civilization, social movement, etc). Any book/movie is allowed. Pick your favorite movie, or the book you just read! I bet you can find CP concepts in there somewhere!
In this project, be sure to address the following points:
Briefly introduce and summarize the film/book. We don’t need the whole story, just key people/plot points that are relevant to your paper. This should not be the majority of your paper.
Clearly state which theories/concepts you see in the movie (this would make a good thesis statement! E.g. “The nationalism help us understand the key tension between the main characters.”)
Explain throughout the paper how these theories/concepts help explain the behavior/decisions/motivations of the characters in the film/book.
