Explain how OD has changed and the reasons for the change.

July 4, 2022
Christopher R. Teeple

PART 1:
History of Organizational Development [WLOs: 1, 4] [CLOs: 1, 4]
Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, carefully read and review all of Chapters 1 and 2 in the course textbook. To successfully fulfill the requirements of the discussion, you will need to understand concepts, relationships, processes, and terminologies linked to organizational development and organizational change.

Clearly, organizational development (OD) has changed over the past 80 years. Take this time to describe the origination of OD and the purpose of its creation. Explain how OD has changed and the reasons for the change. Provide an analysis of OD values and ethics, and their importance to OD credibility.

To recap:

Describe the origination of OD and the purpose of its creation.
Explain how OD has changed during the past 80 years and the reasons for the change.
Analyze OD values and ethics, and their importance to OD credibility.

PART 2:
Week 1 Journal
[WLOs: 1, 4] [CLOs: 1, 4, 5]
Chapter 1 provides an initial look at the role of the OD consultant and the competencies of OD practitioners. As you review the criteria, consider where your skill set lies in terms of being able to fulfill the requirements of an OD consultant. Prior to writing your journal entry, take the DISC Personality Test (Links to an external site.) to determine your behavior toward others.
After completing the assessment, develop a one-page journal entry describing the skills that you discovered to be important to facilitate the responsibility of an OD consultant. Include an evaluation of your current skill set and how it would apply to the OD role.

PART 3:
Discipline-Specific Skills [WLOs: 1, 2, 3] [CLOs: 2, 4]
Prior to beginning this discussion forum, carefully read and review each section of Chapter 3 in the course textbook. The chapter is important because it provides a clear evaluation of the OD consultant role and the competencies required to succeed in the role.
For this discussion, you will locate an OD job descriiption or job posting and attach the document to your response in the discussion forum. You may copy and paste the job descriiption or posting into a Word document and attach it in the discussion forum. Keep in mind, a job posting is different from a job descriiption and may not contain the detail needed for a proper analysis of the position.
There are times when an organization does not have a clear understanding of what the consultant does or how they do it. That lack of understanding might be evidenced in a job descriiption, a job posting, or a request for proposal.
You may use credible sources in your discussion post, such as O*NET Online (Links to an external site.), SHRM (Links to an external site.), Glassdoor (Links to an external site.), or LinkedIn (Links to an external site.). Research several job descriiptions or postings of OD consultants and identify the themes, salaries, and competencies required. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is a professional organization that has a wide range of articles relating to human resources (HR) topics and strategies, standards, and competencies. Founded in 1948, SHRM is the world’s largest and leading provider of resources to serve the needs of HR professionals and advance the professional practice of human resource management.
Analyze one OD consultant job descriiption or posting and find the characteristics defined within the content. In your discussion post, include the important aspects of type, styles, and purpose. Determine if the consultant role is external or internal to the organization. Consider Table 3.3 in Chapter 3 of the course textbook as a resource for identifying skills of the consultant.
