Expected is a PowerPoint presentation with a minimum of seven
slides – not including the title page (which must have the name of the
disease/organism, the name of the student, as well as the class and section
number, and semester/year on it) and bibliography pages (which must include a
list of citations for the resources, pictures, and videos, etc. used).
Make it a great presentation with appropriate colors, font
style, and size, good, well-researched information, relevant data, and even
some curious or interesting facts.
Please make sure you pick .gov, .org, or .edu sites and not just
Wikipedia or Wikimedia, or .com sites as your sources. In science, the CDC, NIH, and peer-reviewed
papers and articles are always the way to go.
Make sure you acknowledge your sources in a bibliography
slide. You are limited to no more than 15 slides for the overall presentation.
The topics that must be covered in the discussion are as
follows:
Title slide with your name, course name, section,
semester-year, and disease or microbe name.
Name of the causative agent (written in proper format with
pictures) and the corresponding disease name (with pictures)
Morphology of the organism, (how does it appear under the
scope, any special microbial identification tests, its sources/reservoirs,
other ways to identify it).
Signs and Symptoms of the Disease (Remember, there is a
difference between the two terms. Also, include pictures – gore does not
disgust us).
Methods of Transmission/ Spread (any vectors, any unhygienic
habits, sources of water, types of food, living conditions – include them all).
Methods of Control/Precautions/Treatment (you may want to
split these into multiple slides separating control and precautions, from
medical treatment).
History/ Epidemics etc. (anything interesting, or timelines,
or just national and international statistics, prevalence maps, and other
facts)
