Expand your day into a week (you may use your Design a Day lessons as part of this assignment). You will create lesson plan outlines for three content areas for a full week, which means 5 lesson plans each for math, science, and one subject of your choice (social studies, writing, art, creative problem solving, or playground/outdoor activity).
You will have an outline of 15 lessons in total, 3 lessons per day (math, science and your third content area of choice). You must be detailed! Imagine you were really teaching: what would you have to do to prepare for the week’s lessons?
This assignment needs to be presented in an outline format, such as you would submit to a principal in a plan book. Outlines for lessons in plan books are usually presented in a grid format. Florida State standards can be found at CPALMS.org
Essential Features of a Lesson Plan Outline
The title of the lesson and how it ties to the theme
The standards that are covered
The activities that will be done (in brief)
The learning objectives (this should take the form “Students should be able to…”)
When you have completed your week’s plan, go back and look to make sure you have included:
Observation Skills
Data Collection
Charting and Graphing
Math and Science skills
Thematic Science/Math information
Problem solving activities
Make sure you have a specific focus for each day and make sure that each day is connected to the previous day. For example, if you have planned to do a day all about clouds (as described in Assignment: Design a Day) the next day may be all about what specific types of clouds exist. Hence, all of the day’s activities would focus on cloud variations, identification, cloud charts, and sorting and classifying. The following day would be connected as well, perhaps focusing on “what clouds do” and the Water Cycle for that day’s lessons, with a special focus on what type of clouds produce rain. Lastly in the week, you may want to wrap up with a focus on the different types of precipitation that the different types of clouds produce and your students could produce a weather report video. Keep in mind that while you progress through the week, you will need to create 5 days of lesson plans, so there will be a full week of connected lessons described for this assignment.
