Creating and using a variety of assessments is expected and best practice, as is instruction and assessment for critical thinking. Using what we learn from formative and summative assessments to inform and drive future instruction is key to success and student learning. With today’s packed curricula, we often gain information from assessments, but then move on without using that information to adjust instruction accordingly. This assessment will help build your muscle memory for creating mindful and effective critical thinking assessments.
Grading Rubric Under Exam Setting
Choose a unit you might teach in your classroom that includes the teaching of critical thinking skills.
Create a set of assessments for the selected unit to measure content mastery and critical thinking skills. Complete the following in your set of assessments:
Develop 5 formative assessments to be used throughout the unit’s instructional portion. Include the following for each formative assessment:
Describe the assessment and where it will be used during instruction.
Justify how the assessment measures content mastery and promotes critical thinking skills.
Explain how the assessment results will inform the unit’s remaining instructional portion.
Develop a summative assessment for the entire unit. Include the following in the summative assessment:
Describe the knowledge, skill, or ability (i.e., objectives, goals, or learning outcomes) the assessment is measuring.
Justify how the summative assessment measures content mastery and promotes critical thinking skills.
Explain how the assessment results will inform future instruction.
Write a minimum 350-word synopsis that describes the strategies and techniques you will use to provide quality, effective feedback to your students for the following:
Formative assessments (during instruction)
Summative assessment
Compile the following for your assignment submission:
Unit outline or a brief summary of the unit
Instructions for a set of 5 formative assessments
Instructions for 1 summative assessment
Synopsis of feedback strategies and techniques
Submit your assignment.
