Essay #1 Assignment (50 pts. possible)
Topic:
Identify and discuss three technological advances in EACH of these areas: typography, photography, and printing during the Industrial Revolution that profoundly changed the nature of visual communications material. Give specific, fully identified examples of inventors and their inventions (name of advance, designer or inventor, and date of advance). (Remember that 3 x 3 = 9, so you’ll be writing about a total of NINE technological advances.)
Write and type a minimum of 500* words discussing the subject below. USE SUBHEADS to divide your answer into appropriate sections. You may use your textbook—see Chapter 9—but you must use online resources as well. Remember that TurnItIn will be checking for plagiarism, so be sure that you paraphrase, i.e., write in your own words. You must also provide a bibliography or works cited page at the end.
Avoid losing points—Follow instructions exactly!
No grade higher than a “C” will be earned if instructions below are not followed.
Instructions:
1.  Give the essay a title; then use subheads to divide your essay answer into logical sections.
2. Provide a bibliography or “works cited” list of your sources at the end.
3.   Images, with captions, are encouraged—but they are not required.
4.  You must have a minimum of three sources (that means at least TWO IN ADDITION to our textbook). **Do NOT use Wikipedia as a source.**  Your last page must be a bibliography or works cited page listing these sources.
5. Proofread and Spell Check before you submit!
6. Upload to Canvas and use TurnItIn to check for plagiarism before midnight on Sunday of the week it assigned (See syllabus for the actual date). You may upload sooner if you wish.
7.  DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Remember that you also have weekly quizzes and other assignments to complete.
*Note: 500 word requirement is for the actual essay— introduction, body, and conclusion. The following are not included in the word count: Your name, the title of the essay, the bibliography or works cited text.
Completed essay must be uploaded to TurnItIn on Canvas by 11:59pm on Sunday of the week Essay #1 is assigned.
