English III Honors Research Paper Requirements (Per 2&3)
The objectives of your junior research paper are:
To explore a career field of interest
To explore post–secondary education (after high school)
To think about how you will achieve your own “American Dream”
Content – Your paper must include a narrative introduction; a career section; an educational and/or training section; a scholarship section; a closing and a works cited page.
Section I-Your narrative introduction serves as a “hook,” so it must tell a story that relates to your life and your interests.
Section II-Career
A stated career objective (one career minimum and three careers maximum)
Educational and skill requirements, your skills, and working conditions
Salary Estimates and Benefits
Job outlook/ future growth /advancement opportunities
A ‘day in the life’ of someone working in your chosen field.
Any other interesting information about your chosen career
Section III-Education
Three education/training requirements (e.g. colleges, universities, trade schools or apprentice programs, military, gap years, etc.). Focus on reach, target and fallback schools. Provide as much of the following detail for each school or other option that you can find:
– location, size of school and size of classes
– tuition, room and board and your plan for payment
– GPA/SAT averages
– FAFSA and application deadlines
– extra-curricular activities, sports
– any notable faculty
– majors that suit your career
– your reason for choosing this school
-when you plan to visit this school
-surrounding area: discuss what is around the college such as shopping malls,
grocery stores, museums, theaters, restaurants, outdoor activities.
Section IV-Closing
Your closing should be a brief statement explaining how/if this research process has helped you to plan for your future.
Other mandatory requirements:
4-5 FULL body pages, typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12” font with 1” margins
Internal citations next to each fact
Works Cited Page-5 sources minimum, MLA format- DOES NOT COUNT TOWARD YOUR 5 BODY PAGES
