Each student is required to attend the meetings of 3 different types of treatment/task/support groups. These may include
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Al-A-Teen, Alzheimer groups, Community forums, work task groups, Board of Directors meetings,
etc. A list of support groups for AA can be found on http://savannahaa.com/meetings with locations throughout Savannah. Please
telephone the group leader to obtain permission to attend. Make sure that the leader knows that you are a Social Work student at
Savannah State University. Each student is required to develop a typed permission slip that he/she will need to be signed by the
group leader and student indicating that you attended a meeting. A statement concerning confidentiality must be included. Students
should write a summary of their assessment of the group observation. This assignment must be posted in D2L by the last day of each
month (Feb-April)

Describe the kinds of services it provides
Briefly describe the purpose of the group
Briefly describe the population that is being served
How are members selected for the group?
Briefly describe the composition of the group (Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Age, Homogeneity, and
Heterogeneity)
Describe the physical setting for the group meetings
What is the time and meeting days/nights for the group
Is the group open-ended or closed? Why?
Is the group short-term or long-term? Why?
Briefly describe some of the activities used during the group sessions. Why were they chosen?
Briefly describe the role (s) of the group leader and the group members
