Each group must choose an organization to analyze in order to be able to apply the Business
Communication concepts taken throughout the course; as well as providing recommendations to
add value to the organization business communication. It is important to choose an organization
that is large enough to analyze (the more communication that takes place in the organization, the
more information and analysis you can formulate).
The report length should be around 5000 – 6000 words (should not exceed 6000 words)
• Mandatory: write up of background information on the company (information gathered
about the organization should be done through primary and secondary research methods;
each group should interview a key person from the organization apart from online or any
secondary resources)
ANALYZING AND APPLYING THE CONCEPTS (15 POINTS)
1. Succeeding in Business Communication (2 points)
• How important is communication to the success of your company?
• Every organization has faced a mean of poor communication; in your chosen organization mention an incident(s) and its consequences. What did this incident cost the organization? What did the company do to resolve this communication problem?
2. Adapting the Message to the Audience (2 points)
• Identify the audiences within the organization.
• Identify the audiences outside the organization.
• How are audiences analyzed by the organization (adapting the message to your audience)?
• What channels does the organization use to reach its audience (both inside and outside the organization)?
3. Navigating the Business Communication Environment (3 points)
• Analyze, in detail, the corporate culture of the organization.
• Interpersonal Communication: How have people managed to excel in the organization with their interpersonal skills (listening, conversational style, nonverbal communication, and networking)?
• Do you recognize any issues with non-verbal communication in your company practice?
4. Communicating across Cultures (3 points)
• Your organization operates in a high‐context culture (UAE); how does it communicate with other organizations/clients in other cultures?
• What adaptations, if any, do you take into consideration for dealing with cross cultural negotiations while doing business here in Dubai
5. Crafting Persuasive Messages (2 points)
• Mention in detail one situation where the organization used a persuasive message.
• Which persuasive message strategy did the organization choose?
• Why did they choose this specific persuasive message strategy?
6. Recommendations and Conclusion (3 points)
• Develop a detailed recommendations for the organization, covering each point mentioned in the report.
