For Essay #2, you will write an intellectual analysis that includes an introductory paragraph (1 or 2), a background paragraph, several application paragraphs, and a conclusion. Support your argument by presenting specific examples from both your lens perspective and your primary text (the film), by making clear connections, and presenting a thoughtful rationale, and analyzing how both texts relate. In addition, you will need one secondary source of your choice. Remember to follow MLA style and add parenthetical references when necessary.
DIRECTIONS
Using a theoretical-lens perspective (toxic masculinity, hypermasculinity, hegemonic masculinity, patriarchal bargain, triple oppression theory . . .) as a critical framework, analyze either The Super Mario Bros. (2023) visual or Blue Beetle (2023) visual texts, by presenting clear literary connections in Ángel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle, AND/OR Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic’s The Super Mario Bros. or a film of your choice, by presenting clear literary connections. How do the characters perform masculinity in the primary text? Feel free to explore and include concepts you have learned in other classes. Your writing must be free of logical fallacies (unless you are analyzing them). Make sure you reference both texts in your post skillfully and follow MLA guidelines.
