Locate a peer-reviewed research article on any subject that interests you. The article must be a minimum of 15 pages in content length, and be published in the last 5 years. Using the example parse sheet, submit a Microsoft Word document with all required components as exampled on the attached parse sheet example. (SEE ATTACHMENT)

What is a Parse Sheet?
An important component to reading peer reviewed journal articles is to develop your own thoughts on the material so you need to critically analyze the information presented in the articles. Question everything you read in an article.
Does the information correspond with other materials you have read on the subject or does it refute/contradict other research?
Is the information generalizable to a wide population or is it narrow to only the population under study?
Is the information practical; can it be put into practice?
Finally, ask the “so what” question. What is the point of the article’s main thesis?
Does it provide any unique insights to the current body of knowledge on the subject or is it more of the same?
Try reading the articles in the following order: Abstract then the discussion and conclusion sections to get a ‘feel’ for the paper.
Next, go back and read the literature review, methodology and results sections to obtain depth into the subject matter and manner of research. Finally, if you are unsure of any word meanings, look up their definitions and make note of them. As to the parse sheet itself, these are used to organize information.
These sheets provide you with a short summary so you can quickly recall key information without necessarily delving back into the materials several times. Parse sheets can be particularly helpful in organizing materials for literature reviews or larger research projects. Parse sheets can also help you understand material by identifying core concepts in the materials you are reading. Finally, they can provide snapshots of common themes in the literature if you review several of your parse sheets on a topic.
