The aim of your dissertation. Do you want to find something out, investigate a problem, explore something, evaluate something, test out a hypothesis, compare and contrast something?
An explanation of why your research is worth doing and what it will contribute to your field. There should ideally be several reasons given for the research
· Do you have evidence of a “problem”?
· Have you found previous research which has concluded something needs to be further researched?
· Have you come across research findings that could be explored in a different context?
· Have you been unable to find any research which looks into a problem? Is there a gap in the research?
Your research questions. These are more specific than your aim (which can be fairly wide). These are the questions you need to be able to address in your research study.
What are the theories that might be relevant to defining your research problem and researching it?
What research methods have you considered?
· How will you do your research? Is your research approach going to be qualitative, quantitative, experimental, mixed?
· Which methods have you considered? Are there pros and cons to them?
· What types of data will you gather/examine? How will you analyse it?
· What will be the sources of your data? Will it come from informants, documents etc.?
What ethical issues would you need to consider?

The most important elements are research questions, aims and rationale; and then methodology. With references for reading
