Do You Know What to Say?
Instructions
When working with survivors, it is important to use language that frames the identity as a survivor rather than a victim. It is often difficult to find the correct words to say to support people experiencing a traumatic loss. This exercise will provide you with tools to develop the “right thing to say.”
For this exercise, consider that you are meeting with a parent that just lost their teenage child to suicide.
Complete the worksheet attached below in the Assignment Resources to assist in developing trauma-informed language.
