For the first paragraph of your paper complete the following short exercise and answer the question below.
Use the key words “free emotional intelligence assessment” or “professional EQ assessment” to search for any free EQ assessment online. Attempt the assessment and process your results.
What useful information did you gather about yourself by attempting this assessment and how will the results help you become a better leader?
For the second paragraph of your post, select any one of the following bullet points and address all elements of your chosen bullet point. Select a different bullet point section than what your classmates have already posted so that we can engage several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to re-use the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue.
1. Kossoff (2016) stated, “The difference between being a manager and being a leader is simple. Management is a career. Leadership is a calling” (paras. 4 & 5). Kossoff further says that employees look up to leaders they can trust, leaders who work for the greater good of an organization and its people (Para. 8).
Do you agree with Kossoff’s analysis? Why? Evaluate what types of individuals make the best leaders. What attributes, characteristics, values, and behaviors do these individuals exhibit? Why are the above-mentioned qualities important to these individuals’ success?

2. E.L. Thorndike coined the term “social intelligence” in 1920. He referred to social intelligence as “the ability to understand and manage men and women, boys and girls—to act wisely in human relations” (p. 228).
Assess whether social intelligence differs from emotional intelligence. Currently, why is there so much focus on the soft skills of social and emotional intelligence? Isn’t business more about profitability, productivity, growth, and efficiency and less about feelings and rapport? Do social and emotional intelligence fit with traditional management theories? How? Defend your perspectives. Thorndike, E. L. (1920). Intelligence and its use. Harper’s Magazine, 140, 227–235.
3. Numerous tests have been developed to measure emotional intelligence. Although these assessments may provide a relatively accurate picture of an individual’s current state of emotional intelligence, no assessment has been known to have a high degree of predictive validity—the ability to predict an individual’s success based on the assessment score.
In reference to the free emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) assessment you completed at the beginning of this assignment, evaluate whether your score is an accurate reflection of your current level of emotional intelligence. Assess whether your score can predict your future success in any way.
4. Consensus leadership and flat hierarchies are often promoted as positive ways to enhance collaboration and creativity in organizations. However, Leichtling (2004) stated “Consensus leadership and flat hierarchies are fads that are finally beginning to pass. They are simply not efficient or effective enough to succeed” (Para. 18).
What is your reaction to these differing points of view? Did Leichtling prove to be right? Assess whether leaders must create consensus within their organizations. What are the benefits of creating a consensus? What are the drawbacks for leaders who are unable to create cohesiveness and shared values within their organizations? Analyze which perspective communicates a higher understanding of emotional intelligence as it applies to leadership.
Leichtling, B. (2004). Consensus leadership is a fad beginning to fade.
The final paragraph (the conclusion three or four sentences) of your paper and you should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in your paper
Justify your answers with examples and reasoning.
