Garfield Park Conservatory lab

This is an on-your-own experience where you need to go to the Garfield Park Conservatory, a free conservatory near in the Garfield Park neighborhood, and experience the plant life there. This semester, it serves as a make-up laboratory for students who have, because of unforeseen circumstances, lost credit on assignments.
1) It can be used to make up credit for up to 20 points worth of assignments, within a SINGLE UNIT, for which the student received a zero grade.
2) It cannot replace assignments for which a student received lower than desired grades.
3) All of the assignments being made up must be in a single unit – not spread under multiple units.
5 point version. Go to the Garfield Park observatory, fill out the questions in the lab manual. Type them into a short, one page assignment, and turn it in to your TA, via email, with a clear statement that this is the makeup lab.
10 point version. Same as above, but go to the desert house and observe, and take down the scientific names of at least 10 species. Research these plants. In addition to the questions in the lab manual, include a one page discussion of evolutionary convergence in plants that live in xeric environments. Include a few references.

In addition to the passage on the desert plants, write a one page descriiption of the genetic variation you saw among the fish in the Koi pond and explain some of the basics of genetics in
20 point version. Same as above, but include at least 10 peer-reviewed scientific sources for
your essay on the desert house. Also, go to the aroid house and observe the plant life there
and the Koi. Read the following internet site on fish genetics.
