Discussion Week 13 – respond to 2 peers in separate paragraphs
peer 1:  Deanna
Discuss Pat’s struggles in identifying his/her gender (social categorization) and why they found this frustrating
– Pat’s gender is a mystery that confuses everyone. People get frustrated because they cant tell if Pat is a boy or girl. Pat gets angry because others keep trying to fit them into categories based on old ideas about gender, even though Pat just wants to be who they are. This struggle adds humor to the video and shows how hard it can be for people who don’t fit into usual gender roles.
Describe at least one stereotype from each video
Video 1: It’s Pat’s Birthday Party – Saturday Night Live:
– People in the video get confused trying to figure out if pats a female or male, showing how some people struggle with understanding different gender identities.
Video 2: Pat at the Barbershop – Saturday Night Live:
– This pokes fun at the idea of barbershops as places for guys to hang out, where pats presence shakes things up and makes everyone unsure about pats gender.
Video 3: Pat at the Office – Saturday Night Live:
– Pats coworkers get mixed up because pat doesnt fit into their usual ideas about how men and women should act at work, leading to funny  situations.

Discuss Pat’s struggles in identifying his/her gender (social categorization) and why they found this frustrating
In the video clips, we can witness that Pat is an enigma and because of this the people surrounding them were eager to try to determine their gender. Throughout the clips, Pat is placed in uncomfortable and awkward situations which leads to them trying their very best to not reveal their gender.  They found this very frustrating because they were unable to fit into the expectations society had for them which lead to being scrutinized. Also, I believe that they feared being judged or misunderstood.
Describe at least one stereotype from each video
Please answer the question for all three questions
In video #1: The people around Pat trying to engage in awkward conversations with Pat in hopes of determining their gender without being too direct. These people demonstrated society’s expectations about gender being a binary concept. This highlights the difficulties individuals face when they don’t neatly fit in to traditional gender categories.
In video #2: The barber tries to determine Pat’s gender by asking what they will be wearing to the party assuming that if its a dress Pat is a female and if its a suit Pat is a male. This highlights the stereotype that gender can be determined based on external cues.
In video #3: Pat is a supervisor in the office, because of their position Pat would be expected to be a male because generally males are hold positions of authority and power while women hold lower positions such as secretarial. This scene highlights the challenges and biases faced in work environments.
