Discussion Instructions
Refer to the Discussion Forum Instructions (Links to an external site.) that were provided in the first discussion forum assigned in this course for more information about the requirements associated with each post, netiquette guidelines, and more.
Each student must post one (1) substantial initial post as a response to the discussion question with a minimum of 150 words by Wednesday at 11:59 PM.
The student must also reply to at least two (2) peer responses in addition to their initial response in a minimum of 75 words by Sunday before 11:59 PM. One of the (2) responses may be responding to the instructor if the instructor has posted additional questions.

Different societies have different cultures. Culture is the beliefs and practices of a group. Society is the people who share the beliefs and practices. Complete the following steps to demonstrate your understanding of society and culture.

Review the discussion topics below and select topic 1 or topic 2 for your initial post.
Complete the writing prompts for the topic you selected in essay format.
List all references at the end of your initial post in proper APA style format.
Review the rubric criteria for posting.

Topic 1: Culture Shock, Ethnocentrism, and Cultural Relativism
Explain the concepts of culture shock, ethnocentrism, and cultural relativism.
Give examples of each concept in the United States or from personal experience.

What are the positive or negative consequences for society as related to culture shock, ethnocentrism, and cultural relativism.
Topic 2: Functionalist, Symbolic Interactionist, and Postmodern Perspectives
Describe the functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and postmodernist perspectives on society and culture.
Provide examples of each approach/perspective in the United States (current or historical).
What are the positive and negative aspects of each perspective/sociological approach?
