DISCUSSION: DSM DISORDER TOPIC AND 4DS SAMPLE
Step 1: DSM Disorder Topic, 25 words minimum:
Review the Research Paper Assignment Instructions and Research Paper Grading Rubric.
Decide which specific DSM disorder you plan to research for the Research Paper Assignment.
Share your topic and discuss why you chose this DSM disorder to research and what you are
hoping to gain from your research. Find and review the DSM criteria for the disorder either in
the class textbook or via the DSM.
Step 2: Incorporate the 4 Ds, 75 words minimum:
After completing the assigned textbook chapter readings and reviewing the DSM for the selected
disorder, discuss at least two of the 4 Ds of abnormality pertaining to the disorder. Demonstrate
your understanding of the terms by your discussion. This should be an analysis of the 4D’s in
reference to the disorder and should not include any direct quotes from the textbook. Cite the
textbook as a paraphrase in current APA-style.
Step 3: Journal Discussion, 100 words minimum:
Find and read 1 scholarly journal article on your chosen disorder that you could use for your
research paper, dated within 5 years. The journal should not be the same one used in any other
discussion assignment. What 3 main points did you glean from the article? Information should be
a summary or analysis of the journal information, paraphrased, and in your own words as to
demonstrate understanding. The summary should not include any direct quotes. Use the LU
Online Library to locate journals. Cite the journal article as a paraphrase in current APA-style.
Citation should include APA-style live link to the journal article.
Step 4: Bible Application, 50 words minimum:
How does the Bible provide insight into an understanding of the disorder? Include concepts from
some of the 4 Ds into your Bible application. Provide a direct quote of the Bible verse or passage
discussed. Direct quote of the Bible passage does not count towards minimum word count
required. Cite the Bible verse discussed in current APA-style.
-Avoid using direct quotations from the textbook or any other source (unless otherwise
directed in the discussion prompt) in any of your threads or replies. These submissions
must be in your own words (paraphrased) so that you clearly demonstrate your mastery of
the material.
-Include citations and references in current APA-style format.
-Finally, proofread your work carefully to catch spelling, capitalization, grammar, and
sentence structure errors. Refer to the Discussion Grading Rubric to ensure an
outstanding grade.
