Discussion Board 3: Science in the News Share-out!
For this discussion board, you will be reading a brief article that describes some muscle
characteristics we have been learning about and…chimpanzees! You will then be sharing some
science news you find interesting with your classmates.
WHAT DO I NEED TO COMPLETE?
In this two-part discussion, you will begin by reading the brief article Chimps’ strength secrets
explained (Link opens in new window). You do NOT have to register to read it. You will then be
choosing your own article from Science Daily (link opens in new window) in their Health and
Medicine category. There is a long list of topics in the Health and Medicine category so choose
what is of interest to you and your future career. This reputable science news site breaks down
what is found in journal articles and provides the link to the original research. You will share
info from both articles as described below. These two articles must both be cited in your initial
post. You may always add more, but these 2 are required.
Part 1: Initial Post (Worth up to 50 points)
Length: 250-500 words
Your initial discussion post will include 4 parts:
1. One point in the How Chimps’ strengths secrets explained article that you found the most
interesting AND why.
2. One question you have after reading the article: What else do you want to know from
researchers? What did they leave unanswered? This question should be specific and pertain to
the article.
3. A link to an article from Science Daily (link opens in new window)
4. A 2-3 sentence summary of that article you chose-what are the key points that your
classmates would find interesting?
Part 2: Responses (Worth up to 50 points)
Comment on at least 2 classmate’s discussion submissions.
In your response posts to your classmates, you will take a look at the link they shared. You will
then let them know a point you found interesting in that article and why. It may not be one
they shared in their summary. You may always tie the articles into what we are learning and
how it relates to your new knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Each comment must be 150-200 words!
o Evaluate their post
o Read the article they shared AND state an interesting point and why you found it
interesting. You may also add something about the article that you found the authors
did well and/or something they could have done better. (“Good Jobs”, or “I agree” are
NOT allowed as your response!!).
